Global Demand Growth for Oil May Fall by a Third in 2016

After hitting a five-year high in 2015, the global growth in demand for oil is expected to fall by about a third next year, adding further strain to an already oversupplied crude market.

A 40% decline in the price of oil since last year has boosted demand, encouraging motorists, consumers and companies to top up. But the economic slowdown in China and elsewhere in Asia could sap that demand, according to analysts and big energy watchdogs.

Just how far that growth in demand will fall is unclear.

“We’re seeing pretty solid demand growth this year, but the big question is what will happen next year,” said Rob Haworth, senior investment strategist at U.S. Bank Wealth Management, which oversees $126 billion.

Sergey Frank, chief executive of Russia’s largest shipping company, Sovcomflot, said its net profit has more than tripled this year as cheaper crude keeps fuel costs low and demand high for the oil products that he ships around the world. 

 

Mr. Frank is preparing for the worst as he plans his shipping routes for next year.

 “Today there is favorable wind, but tomorrow there could be headwind on the market,” he said.

The International Energy Agency, an energy watchdog, forecasts global oil demand growth falling from 1.8 million barrels a day this year to 1.2 million next year.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the 12-nation oil cartel, expects demand growth to fall to 1.25 million barrels a day, and some analysts see demand dropping even lower.

Falling global demand growth comes amid a continued glut of crude that has driven prices to less than $50 a barrel, from $100 a barrel just over a year ago. Booming U.S. output has slowed this year, but other major producers, from Saudi Arabia to Russia, have continued to pump crude at a fast pace in a bid to defend, and win, market share.

Potential game changer for Detroit's housing proble

How second mortgages are being used to make up for shortfalls in appraisals and loan amounts

Nearly three years after Detroit's historic bankruptcy in July 2013, there are still too many dilapidated homes and not enough properties in good condition.

But even when a buyer and seller can agree on a home, the appraisal and approved loan amount can come in under value because of the area's weak housing market. So if you're a buyer and can't get the appraisal math and related loan to work, there's a good chance you're looking beyond Detroit's borders to the suburbs for property.

Plus, if you're a Detroit homeowner and know you can't get a higher appraisal for your home improvements, there's little incentive to invest and upgrade, which only adds to the city's blight problem and declining population.

To offer a sense of the city's struggles, consider that there were only about 500 mortgages in 2015 in Detroit, Goodman said. .

Non-profit tries to bridge home ownership gap One Cleveland-based company has created a program that aims to turn its employees into homeowners. CNBC’s Diana Olick reports the details.

To make up for the appraisal shortfall, a borrower is encouraged to simultaneously take out a second mortgage to cover the difference between the purchase price of the home, related rehab costs and the first mortgage.

How the program works

So far $40 million has been earmarked for the second mortgages by three banks. Other funds for the Detroit Home Mortgage Initiative include contributions from the Ford Foundation and Michigan State Housing Development Authority. The second mortgages are guaranteed with funds from the Kresge Foundation.

So what's the catch?

The program requires participating lenders to offer loans with a combined loan-to-value ratio of more than 100 percent. Typically, assessments with higher ratios are generally seen as higher risk.

The initiative includes other consumer protections. A homeowner is required to hire a project manager for major expensive rehab projects.

"By allowing for mortgages with loan-to-value ratios over 100 percent, it could break the vicious appraisal spiral, which has systematically undervalued rehabbed homes" in Detroit, Goodman said.

Pada pertemuan terakhir kita akan membahas tentang ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi serta kemiskinan, agama dan hubungannya dengan masyarakat.

Saya sendiri berasal dari keluarga yang tumbuh dengan adat yang berbeda, sunda dan jawa. Tapi dikeluagra saya, dari keduanya pun tidak ada yang begitu kental. Nepal: Disaster after earthquake

Disaster in Nepal

Not long ago, there were disaster striking down in Nepal. It started with a 7.8-magnitude earthquake erupted approximately 85 miles east of the capital, Kathmandu, killing more than 8000 people and destroying a half-million homes nationwide on April 25. Three weeks later, the country was strucked again by a 7.3-magnitude tremor near Mount Everest which killed more than 100 people and triggered fresh landslides.

These disaster also destroyed some tourism places in Nepal, such as Durbar Square and Dharahara Tower.

    In my personal opinion, these disaster would give big influential on economy aspect. Loss of houses, damaged road, and destroyed tourism place are the reason why it will have influence on economy. On the tourism aspect, there will be a decreasing amount of tourists or visitors coming to Nepal because of Nepal's beautiful tourism place which now was shattered by the disaster.

   I heard that Nepal has low-quality of building or houses construction. So, when earthquake and landslides attacked, their building or houses became smashed instantly like a mess. The perfect solution to fix this problem is to upgrade their foundation construction system. Creating a strong foundation with high-quality material is the main key. Of course, the building would be destroyed if it attacked by a high-magnitude of earthquake. But at least, we make effort to minimize the potential of getting decayed.
